As the Chinese new year approaches, Cainiao Network, the logistics unit of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, together with China Railway Shanghai Branch, is to launch a special high speed train solely for delivery drivers to send the delivery people working in Shanghai and the surrounding cities to their hometowns.

The special train is to open on January 16, 2020, the day before the Minor Spring Festival which falls on the 23rd day of the 12th month of this year’s lunar year. It departs from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and leaves for Bozhou South Station, a railway station in Northern Anhui province, so as to ensure that those using the service can arrive at home in time to celebrate the festival.

It is the third time Cainiao has provided such a service, which allows its staff plus up to two dependents to use the train for free.

Shanghai is home to the headquarters of several major Chinese courier companies including ZOT Express, YT Express and STO Express. Statistics show that among those engaged in parcel and food delivery in and around Shanghai, people from Anhui province account for the largest percentage.

“Within a dozen hours after the registration was initiated on December 21, hundreds have signed up,” said a person in charge from Cainiao. According to the man, the service is designed to facilitate those delivery drivers who work right up until the festival by solving the difficulty of getting a ticket home.
